Plant:  4-Reactor Plant

Chemical and Control Engineering

Purpose: The plant has a cascade of 3 continuous stirred tank reactors (5 l each) and a 20 m long plug flow reactor. 2 liquids can be dosed in direct or counter current. The fluid transfer between the stirred reactor is by gravity with adjustable overflow pipes. The plug flow reactor is supplied by a speed controlled peristaltic pump. Various combinations of reactors are possible. The heating is done using a jacket and a warm water circulation unit.

Plant:  2-Stage Evaporator

Courses: Chemical Engineering
Purpose: 2-Stage Evaporator to demonstrate energy recovery in multiple effect stack evaporation. Example is a the concentration of salt water. First stage with electrical heating, second stage under vacuum using the steam of stage one. Salt concentration is measured by conductivity.

Purpose: For the demonstration and verification of control programs written by the students. It can be used for the verification of automatically generated source code (research).The focus is not so much on the chemical process, but on control strategies.  The complexity of the plant concerning control is relatively high.

Plant:  Extraction und Distillation

Courses: Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering
Purpose: Extraction in a pulsed column, batch distillation with reflux in a packed column. Influence of the various parameters concerning the mass exchange. The extraction column has 42 sieve trays and a pulsator with variable speed an volume. The distillation has a temperature controlled heater with magnetic stirrer and an automatic reflux divider. It can be used to recycle the material used in the extraction. 
Controls: Single Controllers for the temperature, the pulsator, the reflux divider and the feed pumps. Data acquisition system using MS-Excel as a Data-logger.
